And what I think is really important, and I hope one thing you take away from this episode, is that SEO doesn’t have to impenda… Impenda? I never thought it was something I wanted to do, but here I am. It’s the foundation of my life, my business. So I built The Clever Copywriting School, which now has a shop, a membership, a conference, a directory, a job board, and everything you need to be a successful copywriter. Ranking for the word copywriter meant that lots of copywriters were finding me and I had nothing for them. And after that, it became the foundation of The Recipe for SEO Success and to a degree, The Clever Copywriting School as well. I was able to build a successful copywriting business very quickly because I just had leads pouring in which meant I could pick and choose, I could set decent pricing. And for a brief time, I was number one in Australia for the word copywriter. And in about a year, I was ranking for about two, 300 phrases, including the word copywriter, writer, SEO website, freelance writer. And we all know that the majority of them go to the businesses in the first couple of spots. And I wanted to know how the heck I was going to beat them to the top of the rankings because I knew that ranking in Google on page one was the thing and it still is.ĩ6% of clicks go to businesses on the first page. But when I Googled copywriter, there were already hundreds and hundreds of people, not just in Australia, but in my local area. From there, I went back into the advertising world, working with brands across Australia until I went freelance in about 2009.Īnd then it was time to use my superpower for my own good because I wanted to set up as a copywriter. So in that time, I have worked at agencies like, helping big brands like Pedigree Chum to work out what SEO is and how it impacts websites. Why am I talking about SEO copywriting? I’ve been involved in the world of SEO copywriting for a long time, since really before SEO was an actual thing. So dig in, sit down, grab a cup of tea, and we’re going to talk about SEO. It’s not a tip, it’s not a chat, it’s a learn episode.

You see, SEO and copy are my two passions. But some of you may know me as the head Google beast at The Recipe For SEO Success. Hello, my name is Kate Toon, and I’m the head copy beast at The Clever Copywriting School.
